Troy Mills had a varied career that spanned eleven years in the CFL from 1993 to 2003. Mills first signed with the expansion Sacremento Gold miners as a free agent in 1993 and spent the year working mainly on special teams while seeing sparing action at running back (11 carries for 40 yards). In 1994, Mills got a chance to shine with Sacremento and he had his first of two one thousdand yard rushng seasons as he 1230 yards rushing with a sparklling 6.9 yard average while also catching 61 passes for another 774 yards. Mills became a free agent before the 1995 season and didn't sign until August with the San Antonio Texans who had been transplanted from Sacrmento and renamed. In 7 games, Mills ran for 445 yards and added 30 pass receptions. With the folding of the American teams, Mills was drafted by Calgary in the dispersal draft in the ninth round. The Stampeders, however, released Mills in May of 1996 and he was signed in September by Ottawa where he just played 5 games. Mills seemed jinxed as the Ottawa franchise folded after 1996, and he was again selected by Calgary in a dispersal draft (third round). With history repeating itself, Mills was again released by Calgary in May of 1997 before the season started. Mills returned to the CFL in 1998 with Edmonton and ran for 813 yards. In 1999, despite injuries that limited him to just 11 games, Mills had his second 1000 yard season as he ran for 1022 yards. Injuries limited Mills to just 7 games in 2000, but he still picked up 424 yards rushing. Edmonton released Mills afte the 2000 season, and he signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. In 2001, Mills split the running back duties in Winnipeg with another veteran, Eric Blount, and rookie Charles Roberts as he picked up 430 yards and had 27 catches for 214 yards. Released by Winnipeg after the 2001 season, Mills did not play in 2002, but returned to Edmonton in 2003 where he was employed mainly as a blocking fullback. In fifteen games, Mills had 38 carries for 150 yards and 21 catches for another 333 yards. Mills finished his career with 4693 yards rushing and 244 catches for another 3048 yards.
